SLUMS hosted its flagship event LUMS Sports Fest 2020

Event Report by: Iman Aleem (Senior Rep)

The tenth edition of the LUMS Sports Festival, LSF 2020, was held from 4th January to 7th January. The event consisted of 11 sports (in Under-19 and Over-19 categories) spread over 4 days, with 3 social events. There was an attendance of around 1000 students, with more than 100 delegations from around the country.

The first day started off at 8:00 am with registrations coming in till late evening. We had an Opening Ceremony for the first time which was attended by all the delegates present at that time, with Mr. Khwaja Junaid (coach national hockey team) as our chief guest. The ceremony was held in the sports complex which was decorated with banners all around depicting different sports. It started off with the national anthem which was read out by the whole audience and left a mesmerizing effect. Oath taking of the players and a speech by the chief guest was also a part of this ceremony. Matches on the first day started at 5:30 pm and concluded around 10:00 pm.

Day 2 consisted of early-round matches starting from 9:00 am and went on till 7:00 pm after which there was a comedy and open mic night in the delegate lounge where dance group Nemesis performed along with comedians Daniyal Zia and Younis Azeem. A flash mob performance by the host team was also done during this social event.

Matches continued on the third day, with most of them reaching the quarter-final stage. However, due to heavy rain a few sports, namely futsal and tennis had to be delayed to the next day but were finished on time. The social event for day 3 was a concert with Umair Jaswal and Black Hour, however, it had to get canceled due to the rain despite every effort by the host team to have it take place.

Finals for all remaining sports were held on day 4 and finished by 6:00pm. The Black Tie Mixer themed Closing Ceremony was held inside the Exam Hall of the Law school building and was attended by Mr. Khwaja Junaid, Mr. Shakeel Ahmed (coach of the national rugby team), part of Lahore Qalandars team, namely Sohail Akhtar (captain), Shaheen Afridi (player) and Aaqib Javed (coach). Our chief guest for the night was Mr. Najmullah Khan, a mixed martial arts fighter. The ceremony consisted of giving away awards to the winners of each sport of each category followed by dinner. The festival was won by following delegations:
